Well, too much time has passed, and I am seriously lagging on getting these posts out... so I am going to do one last mass post for my last 4 days in Colombia...

Colombia Day 6

We arrived in Medellin at 8:30am. We took a taxi to Andres’ mom’s apartment. It was a quick 20 minute taxi ride from the bus terminal. We were greeted by his Uncle Jhon Jairo and his friend Ivan. The apartment is very cute. It has three stories. The rooms are small but quaint. After a quick shower and a fresh set of close, we were off to see the city. The first stop was the mall across the street for some delicious ice cream. Afterwards, we took the train to a park with some great statues. Andres and I had seen a statue by the same artist in Naples, Fl a few weeks ago; and Andres was telling me all about this park here in Medellin. So today, we went! The next adventure awaited in a place called “Pueblito Paisa” It is a tourist stop made to look like the typical small towns of Colombia. We took lots of photos and took a look at all the rooms set up. It reminded me of Old Town San Diego, but on a much smaller scale. After this we took the train back towards the apartment, and made a detour to take the metro cable up to Santo Domingo. It is a big version of the sky ride at the San Diego Zoo, except that it goes up a giant mountain in the middle of the city. We didn’t actually get off to see the city because it was getting late. So we just enjoyed the sky ride. J We then retreated back to the apartment for a quick bite to eat before returning out on the town to see a circus. The circus was not too exciting, but Andres’ family had some cousins there. So it was fun to go see them. We finally made it back to the apartment, had some yummy hot chocolate and were off to bed with plans of sleeping in as long as possible!!

Colombia Day 5

Apparently Colombia wakes up early!! The noise started around 6am and went strong until we finally climbed out of bed at 10:30am. After a quick shower, we made our way back to the circus. Of course, we stopped along the way for some yummy pastries. We arrived back at the circus and were greeted by fresh fruit salad and some eggs with arepas for Andres. We began to pack our things to head out to the next city. Some of the family came over to spend some time together before we left. Including our cute-as-can-be godson, Emilio! These are really wonderful people. I am so glad I got to meet them, and I look forward to many more wonderful visits with them. After our bags were packed, the taxi arrived. Well it wasn’t really a taxi, because this town is so small it doesn’t have any. It was actually just a guy with a car, that we convinced to drive us an hour for 13 dollars. Apparently, this is a really expensive for a trip this long, but I thought it was just fine J We arrived at the bus terminal and waited an hour and a half, our bus was late. We then proceeded to ride another all-nighter bus. Besides a few seat confusions, and a little girl wetting herself in the chair where Andres’ mom was supposed to sit, the ride was pretty much uneventful. We attempted again to sleep on a bus. This time, assisted by some melatonin, we were much more successful :)

Colombia Day 4

Despite the sweltering heat and lack of a/c, which we so take advantage of in the US, we slept in nice and late. We then went to one of the neighboring houses to shower. I know it sounds a little strange, but it is normal here I guess. When the circus comes to town, they arrange with one of the local families to use their restroom and shower. None of the trailers here have bathrooms, so this is the only option. It’s still a little weird, because the bathroom is in the middle of the kitchen/living room, with only a shower curtain separating you and your bathroom business from the rest of the family. But it is what it is, and when you gotta pee you gotta pee. Then there was the wonderful freezing cold shower. It makes you really contemplate how badly you want to be clean. I sucked it up, and took a shower. After this, we made our way to the river. Yes, you may be wondering why I suffered through the freezing cold shower when I was just going to jump in a river the next hour. I was wondering the same thing myself. The river was a lot of fun. All the family from the circus came, and we jumped and splashed for a few hours. The bugs really liked my foreign white legs, and ate them up! I guess I was a delicious snack. After the river, we came home and relaxed. Andres’ mom made some meat, rice and beans. Very Colombian, very delicious! Then it started raining, which was a wonderful relief from the heat. Andres and I took the motorcycle to town and got a hotel room. Although, it is more just a room not so much a hotel. But it was a bed, with a bathroom ( my own private bathroom where I can pee whenever I want ) It’s kind of a luxury. We took a quick nap, and then headed back to the circus for the evening show. I watched Andres do magic and high wire again. Afterwards we headed out with his uncles and mom to a local bar for a couple drinks. It was a great time socializing. Then we went back to our hotel for a wonderful nights sleep!

Colombia Day 3

We arrived in Carson at 7am, and from there we took a taxi to Pital. The taxi ride took about 45 minutes and only cost about 7 dollars. Amazing right? The scenery was very beautiful along the way, lots of trees, a big river and a really cool bridge. We got to the circus, met a few of Andres’ uncles, and then we found the sweet relief of a bed. We were able to sleep for a couple hours, but then the sun came out and sleep was no longer ours. Andres’ mom made me a delicious fruit salad with strawberries, mango, banana, and papaya!! We then went to meet more of his family who work here in the circus. Uncles, cousins, new babies… so many wonderful people! It is really hot here, but you get used to it more or less. We walked down to the local market to try and find some meat to barbecue, but they were closed. So we instead bought some yummy breads. We came back to the circus and hung out for awhile longer. Then it was show time. Andres did the magic act with his mom, and the high wire act. It was fun to watch. After the show, we put Andres’ mom’s new barbecue to work! We bought it for her birthday, and it was definitely a great gift. We put it to good use, and bbq’d plenty of meat for everyone in the circus. It was a great night hanging out with all my new family.

Colombia Day 2

We attempted to sleep in through the noises of the kitchen preparing breakfast, and the neighbors waking up and starting their days, but we weren’t extremely successful. Finally around 11:30 we made our way to the bus terminal. Once there, we found some lockers to store our suitcases, and then we made our way to another city close by. This city if famous for the “Catedral de Sal” ( The Salt Cathedral ). It is a salt mine that has been around for centuries. They created a series of tunnels where they carved out crosses and other biblical scenes to create the “Catedral de Sal”. We took the tour, and although I couldn’t really understand the tour guide because she had a different accent and spoke really fast, I did get to see some amazing things. Once you got past the fact that the whole place smelled of sulfur it was an incredible experience. We spent a few hours here looking at the mines and taking photos, and afterwards we took a taxi to a neighboring town where one of Andres’ cousins had a circus. On the way there, I saw horse drawn buggies and cows roaming freely in the streets. I felt a little like Liam, I wanted to yell cow every time I saw one. We got to the circus, and spent some time hanging out with his cousin and their new baby. We couldn’t stay for the show, because the last bus to Bogota left at 8:30pm. So once again we made our way to the bus, and after another hour we were back at the bus station in Bogota. We got our bags, used the restroom ( which by the way, you have to pay for every bathroom and once you get in, you have to buy toilet paper ) got some arepas and empanadas, and then we went to our terminal. This bus was much more comfortable than the previous few we had been on, where your knees run into the seat in front of you, these seats recline and had a footrest. Once there, we settle in for the 8 hour bus ride to the city where his mom’s circus is. Sleep was a little hard to come by as everyone else immediately started snoring. But, I tossed and turned in some form of rest for the next 8 hours. Sleep is sleep, and you gotta take it where you can get it!

Colombia Day 1

We started off the trip with a decent 5:50pm departure from Orlando, Fl. With a non-stop 3 ½ hour flight ahead of us, law & order on the in-flight tv, and a plethora of snacks, it was looking like it would be one of the best trips I’ve had so far. At least until the tv stopped working 2 ½ hours mid-flight. Yes I know, how horrible, no more law & order, but the real problem was that the tvs were a symptom of an engine problem. Apparently a fire alarm indicator was going off, so we had to make an emergency landing in Kingston, Jamaica. In all my years of flying, this is the first time this has ever happened to me. We landed safely, and were immediately greeted by a swarm of emergency vehicles. Luckily, it was a false fire alarm, and our airplane was not on fire. The unfortunate part, was that now we were in Jamaica. Let me preface by saying that the Kingston airport is not nearly as tropical or glamorous as you may think when you hear “we spent 3 hours in Jamaica”. No literally the only thing in the airport, was a metal waiting area and a bathroom. No food, no telephones, and not enough seats for everyone on our flight.

But there we sat, for 3 hours, waiting for them to clear all of the inspections so we could take-off again. Not that I am really complaining, because I would much rather sit on a cold hard floor in Jamaica for 3 hours, then fall from the sky because of an engine malfunction. So, we finally boarded the plane once again, and after another hour of waiting for the Jamaican Fire Department to clear the plane, we were off once again for Colombia. We arrived in the Bogota airport around 3:30am where Andres’s mom was waiting with flowers and tears. She had been waiting at the airport since our scheduled arrival time of 9:45pm. I’ll just let you imagine how those hours of waiting must have felt, especially since we had no phone and no way of letting her know what was going on. After lots of hugs, a few more tears, and a quick taxi ride, we finally made it to our hotel. The bed was really hard, and the neighboring rooms were extremely noisy, but at this point we didn’t care. Sweet sleep was finally ours!

For the 4th of July we went to Ariel's Uncle Larry's house! He has a home right on the lake here in Orlando. We got to go on a boat ride! Later we had some fun with sparklers on the dock! It was a fun day!

Here are some photos from our trio-hammock act we did at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando. We ended up being lowered in from the catwalk which was about 35 ft high. Wouldn't have been so scary except that our hammocks could only come up to about 33ft. So we had to lower ourselves down into it. The music was all wrong, and the lights were funky,
but all in all it turned out to be a good event!

10 honest things...

... I am not sure how I missed this, but apparently I was nominated by Dorothy and Rachael to do this... way to go me, being totally out of the loop in the blog circle!!! So here it is... 10 honest things!!

1. I love the smell of wet rain on the asphalt. It brings back memories of CCA back in the day when we used to be in Bonita and would run around on the big asphalt slab in the back there for hours...

2. Thursday night has become one of THE most important nights of the week for me. Flash Forward, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice... It's gotten so bad, I actually contemplate how I can rearrange my schedule to be sure I'm home to watch it. Unless Im at Rebecca's, cuz she has DVR and we can watch it anytime we want!

3. I think WAY too much! I'm constantly overanalyzing every possible outcome of every situation and choice I make or consider making... which can be good and bad...

4. Shopping is like therapy for me!

5. I'm pretty sure I have the best husband ever!

6. When I am in one place for too long, I start to get really anxious and feel the need to go on a new adventure.

7. I love pictures. I take way too many of them, and when I am bored and missing people, I will spend hours just looking through them and reminiscing on all those good times!

8. Being on stage is one of the best feelings!! I love sharing what I love with other people and having them enjoy it too!!

9. I really wish I was celebrating the holidays with family this year. I could really use some good family bonding! But when you gotta work, you gotta work!!

10. I love life!!! When it's good, when it's bad, I love it!

Then we watched Final Destination 4 in 3d at the chinese theatre! It was a fantastic movie to see in 3d... all those guts and gore... and not to mention we got to wear these stylish glasses!!

I had to wake up yesterday at 5am to be in full make-up and costume, ready to go at 6am... but surprise surprise we didn't go on til about 10, and for a grand total of 30 seconds!!!

We went to the beach this weekend, and as all circus people must do when they see a beautiful sunset, we took some photos in front of the gorgeous night sky!!

It has been all drama with the cars recently. All 3 of our cars are in the shop. I had decided I was going to get a new engine in my car, and it was supposed to be done before I got back to florida this last time. But when I got there, the engine hadn't even arrived to my mechanic. This sort of put our plans to drive to San Diego on hold. Unfortunately, we HAD to get there because we had a job, so as we were driving back from the mechanic, contemplating how we were going to make this work, I got a phone call from one of the companies we work for in Florida. They asked if we were able to do a last minute job the next day in Denver. I told him we could, as long as they got a return flight to San Diego instead of back to Florida. They agreed, and just like that we had a new plan. Talk about a answer to our prayers. Not only did we have a way back to san diego, but we got to make some money along the way. The show ended up being a lot of fun. We did our body balancing act, as well as a synchro lyra act while the other girl did chiffon. It was beautiful! We had to hault the make-up process half-way through for rehearsal...

and thus we discovered beard and pale-face...

We had to go to Busan, South Korea to get some paperwork straightened out... it was quite the adventure. I know absolutely nothing about Korea, so I had no clue what to expect. We were definitely a little nervous going into it, but I had Rebecca with me so I knew it would all be ok:)

We had to be at work today at 8am... It's supposed to be the coldest day yet here in Huis Ten Bosch, and of course it started snowing... Luckily we got to wait indoors before the TV spot.. but it was soooooo stinkin cold...

We went to haiki to do some shopping on our day off... it was pretty chill...

All in all, I would say it was a good day off. We experienced some Japanese culture, did some shopping, and just had a nice time...

a trip to fukuoka...

we went to fukuoka on wednesday. Paris was flying in, so we figured since we had the day off we could walk around and then meet him at the airport. It's really nice to be so close to public transportation here in Japan! So many more possibilities for adventure:) We found a few temples and shrines, the coolest one, we weren't allowed to take pictures in. There was a giant two story high hand-carved wooden buddha! It was absolutely incredible. They had a hallway filled with photos of the process they went through to build this thing. They has the priests bless the logs before they were even off the truck, and then they wrote prayers in the inside of the entire sculpture. So beautiful! This temple was very peaceful. There was also this tunnel under the buddha that had all these painting. The first ones were very dark and scary, then you walk through a pitch black hallway for what seems like an eternity and when you come out the other side the paintings are filled with light and angelic shapes. It was really cool. We also found another temple where we took some pictures... and we finally ended up waiting in starbucks for wini and kiyomi to finish at the consulate where we took a bunch of random pictures just to pass the time. Who knows what kind of andventures we will find next day off... but ill be sure to post more about them...

We FINALLY made it to Japan! It was a whole lot of drama, but we are finally here!!! here's the scoop... We were cutting it kind of close with the timing of gettting our visas and passports back in the mail, and when they didn't arrive friday with the mail ( we were supposed to leave sunday ) we started to get real nervous... but since it was past business hours we couldn't do anything really except pray they come in the mail Saturday... BUT they didnt:( So monday morning at 3:30am, Rebecca and I took off to Miami to be the first in line at the passport agency. We got our new passports within 3 hours and were on the firts plane to japan tuesday morning... Amazing how quickly you can get things done in America if you throw enough money at the situation... unfortunately, the kenyans can't do that. They had to just wait and hope the passports came... when they didnt come monday morning, we had to start pursuing other options... we ended up bringing out 2 acrobats from LA to fill in until paris' passport came. Which it finally did a week later. We were able to get him on the next plane to japan and he got here wednesday night... finally we have the Limbo King! Things are starting to settle down, and we can begin to enjoy Japan!!! Here are a couple of pictures from around the park. As you can see, our pictures are all over the posters, which is why everyone was freaking out when we thought we might not be able to make it out here... lol... I will put some more up soon from our adventures in Fukuoka!!

So another year has come and gone... and now IM OFFICIALLY 22!!! WoooHooo!! We went out for my birthday... It was good times all around... We went to the Roll Bar in Metro West where Rebecca and I had a gig the week before. They hooked it up all night long, which led to a full day of recovery to follow:) But it was really fun! We found ourselves our own personal security guard who stood by us on a speaker box while we danced, no one bothered us up there... hah! Thats just how we roll! heres some pics... take a look:)

I spent my Valentine's Day in a new way this year. Not that I normally do much for this holiday, but as always I had to work! We drove back from Atlanta at 5am, and made it home in time for a lil nap before our job that night. It was in a warehouse near downtown Orlando. This was actually the first real glimpse of any "art culture" here in Orlando. We were pleasntly surprised. There was all kinds of beautiful artwork being displayed. All surrounding the beauty of the human body. All of it was very tasteful, and for how much nudity there was, nothing was particularly sexual. It was cool. I half expected it to be a little nasty and awkward, but it was really awesome. We did our Lyra act, but instead of costumes we were body painted by the incredible Nick Herrera. Now of course, we wore chonies and nipple tape; but it was a lil out of my comfort zone at first. Once I decided to just embrace my cheetah character and run around growling and posing for pictures I soon burst out of my awkward bubble. All in all, it was a great night! I am hoping it will lead to some more artsy gigs! I sure miss all the culture in San Diego... someday Ill go back... *sigh*

Atlanta Aquarium

We had a job in Atlanta performing our anchor act this weekend. Although I didn't get any pictures of the act, we did have a chance to put on our fins to take some pictures with the fish. The aquarium was beautiful. These pictures are in the ballroom where they host events, this isn't even one of the actual exhibits:) We were lucky enough to get a tour of the aquarium after our gig. Normally its all work and no play, but this event was really nice! Check out the photos and let me know what you think!!

Super Bowl 2009

We worked the Superbowl Tailgate party today! It turned out to be A LOT of fun! We were doing duo contortion, for 15 minutes at a time... which is a long time to do contortion on a stage... but there ended up being a metal wall frame around us which we used as a playground... it was sweet! The crowd loved us, we took a million pictures with people, including one with Olympic Gymnast Shawn Johnson... unfortunately, we didnt have our camera with us on that set. But it was still cool! One guy even said that we were "the most photographed ladies at the event" good times, good times!! It was a nice end to our exciting weekend!

Quixotic 01-31-09

Rebecca and I worked an event for a performance company based in Kansas City, Missouri called Quixotic. This is our third show with them, and we are really loving this company. Everyone is so friendly, helpful and talented. It is always a great experience. This was our first show back together since Rebecca came back from being on tour with T-pain, and let me tell you it felt GOOD to be back!!! We worked our butts off. We had to do 3 acts in a 25 minute show. It was non-stop action, but we had a great time. We finished the show around 10pm, headed back to the hotel, got a few hours of sleep, and now I am sitting in the airport at 6am waiting to fly to Tampa and work the Superbowl!! WooHoo!!...

... in the life. I had a gig yesterday... and it was... well it was interesting. Let me start by telling you about the drive there:) I had to help drive a group of chinese acrobats, very sweet girls. They have only been here a month, don't speak a word of English. I worked with them a couple weeks ago and drove them down to Miami. This time however, they were accompanied by a couple older men as well. And let me tell you, they added some interesting twists to the, uh, atmosphere of the ride. My co-pilot, who also didnt speak any english and smelled of stale rice cakes and salted fish, decided halfway through the drive that he was going to clip his nails... I kid you not, pulled out the clippers and proceeded to go at it with a vengeance. Those puppies were flying all over the place, I had to dodge a couple so as to avoid getting poked in the eye... lol... it was definitely a drive to remember. Once I got to the job, the usual chaos began. It turned out to be an ok show, the audience was very gracious. Let me tell you, I danced like a fiend practically the entire show! I was hired to do "atmosphere", which basically means fill in all the blank spots, and when you work for this company there are a whole lot of blank spots. I had a great time though... and all in all it was just another day.

... and I have it hanging on my wall. Its not just a plain dollar, this dollar was given to me by a one-legged man. I was doing a stilt gig in downtown orlando, and this man followed me for 3 blocks trying to give me this dollar. At first I felt bad, I didn't want to take his money, he needed it more than i did. But he kept looking at me with such a gleam in his eye. He was so excited by what I was doing that he just had to give me something to show his appreciation. When I finally reached down and took it, the smile on his face said it all. That dollar means so much to me now. Every time I look at it I am reminded that no matter how hard my life is, whatever the circumstances, I always have something to give.
